Catch the WAVE
In 2016, I attended an emerging leaders training at a local college. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Learning my leadership type? Management techniques? Motivating team members? Nothing prepared me for what it really was.
The trainer, David Mensah of WAVE Training, walked to the front of the room with a warm smile of admiration on his face, as though he were humbled by being in the presence of such greatness. He asked us a simple question, “What have you always wanted to know about leadership?”
A dozen hands flew up in the air. He did something unexpected. Instead of answering the questions, he engaged in short coaching dialogues with each of us. He heard our questions, but he also heard the apprehensions, frustrations, and hopes deep within our questions. As he guided each person to get unstuck and find the answer to their own question. It felt as though he was coaching all of us.
What I learned that day, I applied immediately. I went from a hesitant contributor in my field to someone who leads with confidence and helps others do the same.
Nothing was the same after that. I started getting results. More than that, I saw myself differently. I realized that what I truly wanted to do with my career was to help others realize their own capacity to lead.
I started training with David. I completed a coach training program and earned my International Coaching Federation certification. I practiced doing leadership training with every group I could find until I felt competent enough to start my own leadership development practice.
Today, I’m an affiliate coach facilitator with WAVE Training. For the first time, we are offering that same signature training that changed my life to everyone. I’ll be one of the trainers for this first open registration course.
I want to share this with the world. Do yourself a favor and register for the June training. I can think of no better professional development training.
