Who You Were Born to Be
I officiated a wedding this past weekend. Never had I ever imagined that I would play that role in someone’s life. I was initially inclined to say no. I had no idea how to do it, and I was not ordained in any way. But, I had to listen to the invitation. They were communicating to me that they did indeed see me in that light.
So I learned how to do it. I did an online ordination. I learned the responsibilities of an officiant. I met with the couple several times to see them more deeply. I wrote heartfelt words that I would say before guiding them through their promises to each other. And I showed up to play the role they asked me to play in their marriage to each other.
Today, I’m overwhelmed with joy. I’m in love with love. The work I’m doing today has tenderness. I hear my clients more deeply.
When someone takes the time to tell you the qualities they see in you, listen deeply. It will connect you to who you truly are. Your life will transform. When you tell someone else the qualities you see in them, their lives will transform. In this way, we make the world a better place.
This principle has the most powerful resonance with leadership. Always choose to name the qualities you see in others.
Invite people to be who they were born to be.
